With only 1,350 produced, your chances of seeing the Ford GT Carbon series on the road

With only 1,350 produced, your chances of seeing the Ford GT Carbon series on the road is slim. Thankfully, you can see it in all its glory in photos. In October 2018, the Ford GT Carbon series was introduced to the world at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA). Compared to the Competition model, it is 30 pounds lighter, and although it is also one that is meant to be taken on the track, it still features air conditioning and radio, which aren’t available in the Competition Series. The most appealing thing about this car, though, has to be its awesome design. It’s an extremely limited car, with only 1,350 produced in total. So, if you ever see one on the road, consider yourself a lucky chap. Today, we have decided to bless you with some eye candy as we have compiled a list of 15 beautiful photos of the GT Carbon Series in different environments. You will see it on the track, in the wild, and even being delivered to a lucky customer! We hope you enjoy it! The Ford GT Carbon Series was built to be a great performer on the track, but it can also be an everyday sports car for speed junkies. Nevertheless, the Le Mans-winning car loves to race, and it comes with things s...

There’s no question that tennis legend Serena Williams is one of the greatest athletes of all

There’s no question that tennis legend Serena Williams is one of the greatest athletes of all time, with a near-record number of Grand Slams under her belt. But just how many medals has she won at the Olympic Games, and how does her haul stack up to her competitors? Serena has medalled at three different Olympic Games (and looked pretty stylish doing it, too), winning a total of four medals, all of which are gold. At the time of her most recent gold medal in 2012, she was tied as one of the most decorated tennis players in Olympic history; that record was broken by her sister, Venus, who took home a fifth medal (a silver in mixed doubles) in 2016. Serena’s run began at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, where she took home her first Olympic gold in the doubles event with her sister, Venus. Serena chose not to compete in the 2004 Olympics but returned alongside Venus to the 2008 Games in Beijing, where the sisters were once again a tour de force on the court, clinching their second gold medal. It was the 2012 Olympics in London, however, where Serena shone brightest. Not only did she and Venus defend their doubles title, but Serena also took home the gold in women’s s...

Rescue at sea: How Coast Guard saved a Montauk fishing crew

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter at the scene with the New Age, a Montauk-based fishing vessel. Credit: U.S. Coast Guard/Caelan Harshaw Mike Havens was asleep in the galley of the Montauk fishing trawler New Age, around 20 miles south of Fire Island Inlet, when a mate woke him with a line that is every fisherman’s nightmare. It was shortly before 3:45 a.m. on Feb. 12, and the three-man crew had fished for fluke most of the previous day. They packed more than 1,500 pounds of fish in the hold until 10 p.m. and were steaming to New Jersey to unload their catch. Now, the sky was black, the wind was up around 30 knots and swells were level with the stern, a sign of trouble. Deck lights lit the scene phosphorescent white. When Havens, 49, of Amagansett, reached the deck, he noticed the stern of the vessel was level with the sea and taking on water. “It was rough,” he said. “The wind come up early in the morning,” and swells were pounding the steel boat, a bright-red 45-foot trawler with a high bow that bore a wrinkle. Sensing a problem with the boat’s onboard wate...

From small packs designed for lift-access skiing to behemoths built for serious backcountry use, we found

From small packs designed for lift-access skiing to behemoths built for serious backcountry use, we found the best ski backpacks for every budget. For skiers, backpacks carry avalanche rescue tools that can save lives. And other times they just carry a few candy bars and a water bottle. So picking the right pack for your ski day depends a lot on the mission at hand. While most packs have a lot in common — namely shoulder straps and a pack bag — they differ wildly in size, weight, and how much they’ll comfortably carry. Packs these days are incredibly well-made. Materials are built to last, seams are heat-welded or bar-tacked, and buckles only break if they’re abused. We tested and reviewed the best women’s ski and snow pants of 2020, including top picks from The North Face, Arc’teryx, Helly Hansen, and more. Read more… We tested two dozen packs that are available now. Testers racked up more than 300 ski days (at resorts and in the backcountry) in Canada, the U.S., Japan, and Europe. We climbed Oregon’s Mt. Hood, trekked and climbed in Nepal, hiked in the mountains around Innsbrook, and scrambled up snow-covered peaks in the Dolomites. It’s worth noting that this tes...

Approaching last year’s non-tendering deadline, Avisaíl García looked likely to get spurned by the White Sox

Approaching last year’s non-tendering deadline, Avisaíl García looked likely to get spurned by the White Sox due to an arbitration projection that turned out to twice as much as any other team was willing to guarantee him. That decision looked like a given, so I instead turned my eye to Leury García. The White Sox were going to tender him a contract, but with his arbitration projection approaching $2 million and a resume full of incomplete seasons, I could see more ambitious uses of the roster spot. Of course, Leury García only ended up making $1.55 million last year, a less daunting figure. He answered one question affirmatively by playing 140 games, although it fell a little short of starter quality. His 1.5ish WAR doesn’t quite capture his entire value to an organization due to his ability to cover outfield and infield positions, as well as his ability to reach on errors, but his lack of plate discipline, home-run power and standout defense is going to lower his ceiling. Those thoughts about García returned when reading the latest batch of arbitration projections from MLB Trade Rumors. His projection jumped a few integers, as did those for a few of his teammates. At the same ...

All Things Must Pass, a documentary about the rise and fall of Tower Records, is worth a look. It’s one of those interesting stories that are relevant to me because it’s ephemeral and generational. It’s like watching a doc about free weekly newspapers thick with ads, repertory movie theaters that showed old films, or even as recent as video rental stores; all things that were big in “our” time — baby boomer’s time — and have since faded. But whatever age you are, you may find it of interest. I’d wondered how they managed to get interviews with people like Bruce Springsteen and David Geffen until I found out the director was Tom Hanks’ son Colin. As Colin’s dad nostalgically depicted in That Thing You Do, back when I was a kid, records were sold in places like TV and radio stores, department stores, and five-and-dimes (a pretty anachronistic phrase now). A few record stores existed mostly for the classical and jazz fans (I can’t really call them “crowds”) and were smallish hobby and collector stores. We boomers have lived through the whole era of the giant record superstore, rock-driven places like Sam Goody in New York and Tower Records, which started in 1960 in Sacramento and m...
